The Valravn is a creature that appeared in Danish folklore. According to folklore, the creature was once a raven feasting upon the slain on a battlefield. When a raven consumed the heart of an unburied or lost king who was killed in battle, it would become a valravn. This Valravn was a shapeshifter, capable of transforming into a knight after consuming the heart of a child.
An alternative form the valravns could take was as a creature that was half wolf and half raven. This however has not been definitively proven to be true to the Danish folklore and might be a more modern take on the Valravn.
However, this last form of the valravn (being half raven/half wolf) has inspired my design for this creature.
Studies and sketches
I started out by drawing both a raven and a wolf, paying special attention to their facial features. Then I made some rough sketches of my interpretation of this creature followed by a more detailed version of possible designs for the valravn's face.
