About Me

I’m Vera Catharina and I have always been drawn to and inspired by the mystical essence of the natural world. My fascination for folklore, fantasy and history started when I was young. By the time I was able to pick up a pencil I was drawing dragons (almost exclusively) and to this day I still do, but now I mostly create artwork that explores the balance between the natural world and the imagination. In my paintings I aspire to capture nature’s fantastical side. By experimenting with different materials and techniques I try to create dimensional pieces that explore the beauty as well as the complexity of our natural environment. Through my lens I strive to amplify the mysterious, haunting and vulnerable side of nature by using strong contrasts between light and dark in my photographs. My goal is to invoke a sense of magic, melancholy, drama as well as tell the quiet untold stories of nature.
